Dr Thomas John Barnardo was one of the most significant and important people in the Victoria era and he is well known to this day for the work he did with Victorian children to rescue them, train them and give them better lives.

When Thomas Barnardo passed away in , his charity had grown to include 96 homes, caring for over 8, vulnerable children, including disabled youngsters. The emphasis was more on supporting children with disabilities and emotional and behavioral difficulties through its charitable fundraising.
